Patricia Guy, a major expert on Italian wine with whom we are proud to work in the Wine Trip project spoke about her feelings
for Italian indigenous grape varieties: “When visiting wine producers in the 1990s and early years of the new century they would inevitably present me with Cabernet and Chardonnay-based wines.
When I asked if they had anything else they wanted to show me, they were likely to reach under the table and pull out a bottle made from local grapes. When I asked why they hadn’t been prepared to show these wines from indigenous vines they answered promptly: “Because American, English and European wine buyers had told them that ‘international’ consumers would not be able to understand the flavors and fragrances of these varieties and therefore would not buy them.’ This made my blood boil. I knew that consumers, wine buyers, sommeliers and shop assistants would appreciate these vibrant and original wines, if they only had the information about them was properly presented. With this in mind I wrote the book. Wines of Italy”. Wine Trip courses and tastings shares her knowledge and gives tasters the opportunity to enjoy our best wines of our territory, with a new awareness and involvement.
